Haru

4.3

About this business

With nine well established restaurants in New York, this chain needs no introduction. The ample wooden furnishing, mute lighting, a bar that serves delicious concoctions, an outdoor cafe and of course the food, all combined gives you Haru. This stylish and refreshingly different restaurant is simply great not only in terms of its food but also the decor, atmosphere and service. For die hard sea food lovers, this one is highly recommended.

Not Bad, Not Great – I've eaten at a lot of sushi places, both in NYC and out. Haru is okay, nothing remarkable. Decent sized pieces, prompt service (though we went late night and they were close to kitchen close time). The fish could have been a lil more cooled, had a slight mushy texture to it. They overcooked the edamame and a lil nubbin of wasabi for 3 rolls of sushi. Clean but not the greatest attention to detail.

Great sushi – I've been coming here since it opened years ago when my parents would take me. Now this is where I like to spend MY money. Unpretentious service, great food, and the new hostess, Mickey, is awesome. She treats everyone like VIPs. Haru's still great after all these years. Glad I'm back in Manhattan!

Haru is consistently good. It can get crowded and loud though. The disco music is a bit loud, but I still come back for the fresh fish. The service is efficient and skinny(to squeeze between the tables). I've only had one bad experience there when I ordered scallop sushi. It tasted "bad." I went to send the other pieces of it back, and the waitress was insistant that it couldn't be bad b/c it was fresh from the shell. Nonetheless, it was bad. Overall, I'd recommend.

An Upper West Side outpost of a Manhattan sushi mini-chain. – The Scene This Haru branch is a medium-sized room with a small sushi bar, decked out in dark blond wood that shows a few signs of wear and tear. Large windows look out onto a gritty stretch of Amsterdam Avenue. Service, though attentive, doesn't go much further than recommending the yellowtail. The Food The giant pieces of sushi here provide value in terms of quantity, though the fish is unremarkable. Usuzukuri, a fluke appetizer, is light and transparent, but sas... read more

Quite Good & Tasty! – I eat at this particular Haru's ALL of the time. I am addicted to their spicy titanic roll. . .which could be easily renamed to PRICY titantic roll, but it is still damn good. I prefer to go when it isn't so crowded (weekends, late lunches, or early dinners) but late at night is good as well, if you don't mind eating after 10 p.m I've found the service pretty good an attentive at least 90% of the time. The white tuna is EXCELLENT and I just really like their food and wouldn't hesistate to recommend! Enj... read more

NO SUSHI FOR YOU!!! – My friends and I went at HARU on a Tuesday evening, so it was not very busy. But despite that our dinner took far too long to be served. Everyone in my group ordered Sushi/Sashimi entrees and it was at least 45 minutes before we got our food. To make things worse, they served 3 of the 4 entrees first so the poor forth guy had to wait even longer. When the food all finally came, it was yet another disappointment. The Sashimi Deluxe, surely was not deluxe...the pieces were small and few. Totally unsatisfy... read more

Haru Hits Home – Sit at the sushi bar to avoid the long wait and watch the chefs make their magic. Some of the special rolls are not aptly named, i.e. the Wasabi Roll should be renamed the Christmas Roll as it has green and red colored caviar and not much wasabi at all. The lettuce in the house salad is sometimes wilted, but dressing is excellent. The Sushi is top-notch for the value.
