I had an extremely disappointing experience with Happel's this year. On 11-22-24, I harvested a young cow elk. Clean rifle shot through both lungs. I delivered the elk to Happel's 2.5 hours after I shot it. There was snow on the ground. It was cold. The carcass was clean as could be. When I got there, they weighed the unskined carcass at 156 pounds after the head and lower legs had been removed. I asked how long it would take until I could pick the processed animal up. If I could give this place a 0, I would. NEVER take your animal here to get processed. We took a 156 lb elk there and got back 47 lbs!! When questioned, they claimed that the rest of it was "sour". We lost at least 30% of the meat we should have gotten including the backstraps and tenderloins. My husband shot this elk on a cold day in November and had it to Happels within 3 hours. They gave me a back of meat. Nothing was portioned out. Seal on the bag was broken when I picked it up.
