What began in 1901 as a vision to bring medical services to residents in the Hannibal area is now more than a reality. A gift of land funds from Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Levering and the determination of a group of sisters from the Sisters of St. Frances became the foundation for Hannibal's two hospitals which served the community until 1993. Went to the ER for chronic abdominal pain, and was referred to a specialist without treatment. Wasn't able to make an appointment with the specialist for two weeks, so I suffered through that. Finally got to my appointment, and the doctor examines me and tells me to return to the ER immediately. Got back there, and they pumped me up full of drugs and referred me AGAIN to the specialist without any real plan for treatment, leaving that up to the other guy, I guess.
