As a local business ourselves I always try to work with local companies. I called for them to check a garbage disposal at our location, and they said payment first, which was no problem we have a business credit card, then they told me they do not take business credit cards, Only checks or cash. I am assuming they have been burned in the past, but I cannot establish a local to local arrangement, I always pay with our card, then if they want to set up an account later we will look at it.
