All those nasty parts of animals my grandma would cook up on her farm in Loudoun County that turned my stomach - this place uses the same stuff and charges a fortune for it. Check out the menu online and if it appeals to you and you have cash to burn...hurry in because the Washington Post reports that they are being evicted for non-payment of rent (apparently not the first time for this chef).

I'm a southerner and haven't had really good fried chicken in ages. Gypsy Soul knocked it out of the park! You could really split the dish with someone else. It's very generous. I could have eaten an entire plate of the collards that came with it. The chicken is brined first and fried with not a trace of grease evident in the finished bird. EXCELLENT. Not once did someone reach for salt, etc...and Wednesday being 1/2 price wine night, we picked a Pinot Noir from France that was out of this ... read more

The food's ok if you like pretension and exorbitant prices with your sub-par southern food. For $18 their shrimp and grits should have been the best damn thing I'd ever put in my mouth but instead it was kind of watery and tasted like I could have just gone to Denny's. I also asked one of the guys at their farmer's market stall if anyone working for the restaurant or any of the owners were actually Romani, because, you know, "gypsy" is a racial slur. After a moment of confused silence, a burly white guy with a greasy beard r... read more
