I saw plants actually starting to sprout in one section of gutter. It was filled with a compost-like mix of dirt and decomposed leaves. The cleaning cleared it completely down to the metal.
I kept hearing dripping after the rain stopped, and the gutter was holding water. There was a sludge of dirt and decayed leaves blocking the outlet. Once that was scooped out, it emptied right away.
Our garage gutter tends to collect more dirt than the rest of the house because of the nearby trees. There was a mix of leaves, seed pods, and fine sediment along the bottom. After cleaning, the entire channel was open instead of having debris gathered in the corners.
The gutters along our two-story section had been neglected for quite a while. There was a noticeable amount of debris in the higher sections, particularly near the roof valleys. After cleaning, those areas were clear all the way to the outlets.
I wanted to get ahead of the rainy season instead of discovering a clogged gutter during the next storm. Having them cleaned beforehand gave me some peace of mind.
