Huge shop, crazy how deserted this once great shop is now. At the peak of production they ran with 2000+ welder fabricators and now they have less than 250 welders on site. It really is an impressive shop when you walk through it.
Their employee Travis likes to mock people with autism and say they should be hit by trains
Why do you guy make your railcars in CHINA?
As an engineer, it was fantastic to be able walk out to the shop, see our designs come to life and learn from a very seasoned production and QA team. Working at the Gunderson plant was a formative experience and convinced me of the criticality for engineering and production to work hand-in-hand. It will be sad to see the Gunderson name disappear from NW Front Avenue after nearly 104 years of history (82 years of roughly continuous operation at the 4350 address).
