A place that sells books really should open a book on what America was founded on and the base of rights and amendments set by our forefathers

The best darn bookstore from Timbuktu to Portland, Maine...or Portland, Oregon for that matter. There is a solid assurance that Gulf of Maine Books has something on the shelves to tickle your literary funny bone, whether it be manuals to grow your own organic, cage-free snap dragons or metaphysical road maps to the unyielding luminosity of reality - Gary and his group of merry pranksters has it all. Also, the *best* selection of poetry publications that you'll find in the 207 area code. A++ book store!

I was there in late October when Gary agreed to stock my new book, Phoenix of the Seas, the history of the schooner Ernestina-Morrissey that is now undergoing a $6 million restoration at the Boothbay Harbor Shipyard. I did much of the research in the Bowdoin library archives that hold the papers of Capt. Bob Bartlett, Donald MacMillan's friend, who was captain on the Morrissey for her many trips to the Arctic.

This is the best bookstore in Maine. Period. After 10 years of visiting, my brain is almost used to the long horizontal shelving.

I was vacationing at Thomas Point Beach and had the pleasure of shopping in this wonderful book store. They had a book I was looking for and introduced me to Louise Penny's first book.
