Grotta Azzurra

4.2

About this business

With legends like Frank Sinatra and Robert De Niro having frequented this place, Grotta has always been one of the most popular Italian restaurants in the neighborhood. The 'Blue Grotto' disappeared for six years since its opening over a century ago, however it reopened with renewed vigor again to much fanfare. The multi-level eatery still retains some historic features like the marble and mosaic floors; and its vintage mahogany bar and wine cave stack about 1,600 bottles.

I know it was on a corner of Mulberry and the nice heavily accented guy, told me this one corners Broom. Yes! Broom. That's it. It had red check cloths, Ma said we could get shot in a mobstah drive by. I loved that and this place. First time that I remember, I was 4? We always came into the City. Ma Bronx born, fun drinking Irish o... read more

An excellent experience! The staff took the time to walk me through the extensive beer selection and provide opinions about everything I asked about. There was an obvious knowledge on the subject as everything I had was exactly what I was hoping for (take note for those out there looking for good and rare IPAs). The menu was loaded with great options and as plates came out of the kitchen it made it even more difficult to make a decision because it all looked good. My meal was spot on, and the experience overall was nothing s... read more
