The staff is fantastic. Thank you to Sam, my intake person. I was nervous about driving an hour to this emergency service because there were so many negative reviews. Let me be clear: This is a GREAT place. I like that they take appointments and also triage so that critically ill animals get priority. The wait time was much less than at my regular vet and much less than MSU, which I also recommend . I also like that they have pet parents wait in the car. My dogs are anxious and do much better when I'm not in the exam room... read more

Run away from Great lakes pet emergencies! When I took my cat in he had an appointment at our vet in 5 days but was in so much pain he could not eat. We decided to take him to Great lakes pet emergency to help with his pain until we got him to the vet so he could at least eat and drink. The staff needs sensitivity training. While saying goodbye to our 12 year old dog before euthanizing, I was handed the bill on a clipboard overtop of the dog. Dr. Grant also needs training in speaking to customers. She took a smug defensive tone when I asked questions about the tests and the costs prior to proceeding with them. I expected the costs to be higher due to pet emergency. However, when I requested to take my dog home, I was told it would be another $200 or I could not take him. Sure seems money is the main c... read more

We had to take our cat in at midnight. He had been in excruciating pain (after throwing a huge blood clot cutting off all blood supply to his back legs) and I had given him human narcotics before we could even get him in the car and drive 40 minutes to Great Lakes. The woman at the front desk (where you must pay for everything before being seen) asked if I wanted to stay with Bear and I said "absolutely." When we finally saw the vet (Dr. Spencer), she refused to let us stay with Bear for the iv unless we allowed (and paid... read more
