So my experience with this school was weird and interesting at the same time. While it’s clear that the instructors are knowledgable and experienced, there seems to be an internal disconnect between them, a conflict at times that would cause some to walk out or not be on the same page. Dorsey College of Grand Rapids has been an incredible experience! One of the things I appreciate most is the small class sizes, which make it easy to get one-on-one attention and truly feel supported. The instructors and staff go above and beyond to help every student succeed—they’re not only knowledgeable, but also patient, approachable, and genuinely invested in your progress. While the instructors at Dorsey are absolutely incredible, the problems at Dorsey College remain in the management. Classmates were harassed and treated unfairly and had been falsely accused of certain events and lied to. I would not recommend doing courses here unless you want to deal with consistent issues from the upper management and no compassion or support returned to you. The instructors made my course manageable otherwise I wouldn’t have stayed.
Great Lakes EMS was a fantastic program. Unfortunately they were bought out by Dorsey college. They kept most of the instructors (who are fantastic by the way) but the overall EMT program is run very very poorly. Harassing students, poor communication and just complete failure to help with anything is how I would describe the college as a whole. Overall very disappointed on how Dorsey college runs things.
I'll start this review by saying the 4.7 review you see is for the recently bought out Great Lakes EMS academy which deserved the 5 stars IMO, not Dorsey. If you look at their main campus their status is 2.8 and for good reason. Some of the instructors here are are great, they previously worked for Steve who was an amazing instructor and they continue to provide excellent training to students, That being said, the college itself and it's administration are terrible.
