The merch store is awesome but the go karts and simulators are lame. Go karts all have a speed limiter and reach the same top speed, which means even if you set up an overtake with good driving, by the end of the straight both karts have reached top speed and you can't overtake. Although using the overtake button was the one unique gimmick, the karts being so underpowered guarantees no action.
