Treated me like a faceless number, walked in with his diagnosis clearly already sealed in his mind, appeared to not listen to any symptoms, then sent a report to my doctor about a thorough physical exam that NEVER TOOK PLACE.

Terrible bedside manner. Dismissed me, told me nothing was wrong with my back. He said he didn't see anything wrong with my images. I left in tears, my husband with me, just as stunned. I think he was looking at someone else's images instead of mine. I have SCOLIOSIS!
He operated on me for a spinal fracture. It was completely ineffective. Chronically late and physically intimidating. So no. Keep shopping.
I saw this guy for compression lumbar fractures. It’s been two weeks since he gave me injection therapy. I’m in pain twice as bad as before the procedure.
I had Gooch do lumbar surgery on me due to arthritis. He cut out part of the lumbar, replaced with rods and bolts. He said beforehand that he would not guarantee I would be out pain after surgery. Well dog gone it, he was right. Except that the surgery he performed created new, never before felt pain and while my legs work much better post surgery, I have incredible 24x7 pain now in places I never had prior. My husband has been going to him for a few months and he has done nothing for him. He wont return calls. Horrible office staff. Need to look for another doctor out of Asheville because they are all affiliated with Mission.
About a year and a half ago I had spinal surgery with Gooch and I've been left with way more pain than I had before the surgery and have not even been able to go for a walk without having to quit after 3 minutes because of the pain. Gooch was abrupt and rude. And he's morbidly obese which never bodes well. Choosing him was the worst mistake of my life.
Dr Gooch fused 4 of my lumbar vertebra. He was good to work with, explained my options. The surgery was complex. Recuperation time was long but now at 74, a year after the operation, I feel great. Carolina Spine and Neurosurgery was easy to work with.
