Delivery Food Alternative - Grocery Shopping City Style When you live in the middle of the city where most everyone has no car (and even if they did - where are the supermarkets?) one has to rely on the neighborhood grocery marts to survive. Going Bananas on Salem St. in the North End makes good use of their limited space: packing healthy foods and plenty of produce in the size of a studio apartment. Convenient but Too Small for All Your Needs It's great to be able to pick up what you need when you're in a pinch in the North End. It's got a decent selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and prepared food. However, I wouldn't say that this could be your only grocery store. The price and size would make it very tough.

Bananas In 1956 the store front was a place Bananas were sold... is it the same place/space... you entered from the sidewalk..Is that why it is call Going Bananas? Did you capture the name from the history of the building? I was 3yrs old when I lived there and could smell the bananas all the way to the 3rd floor. The landlords at the time was Lentros a wonderful Greek family, which I still have fond memories. I will check back for the answers... but I was looking for something else on the net... so away I go...

Going Bananas is amazing customer service i just walked into Goin Bananas to grab some chicken to make pesto for dinner. there wasnt any on the shelf, and they didnt have any in the back, so i said "thanks anyway" and kept walking down the street. 2 blocks later, i felt a tap on my shoulder. the girl from the store had run down the street to tell me that she'd found some chicken in the back. wow! when would that ever have happened at a big grocery store? never. what awesome customer service from this locally owned store.
