Peanut butter – There's so much rave about this PB thing. Inventive roll but just a tablespoon too much of Skippy. Trying too much too little. Too many special rolls which they aren't really special. Hate that teriyaki.

A sure thing -- Excellent – This place is fantastic. The fish is always very fresh and tasty. The menu is interesting with some daring and unique rolls, but also with the general sushi staples. And the service is always so friendly and accomodating. Its always such a pleasant atmosphere. I see that some people have attacked some of the rolls that Ginger uniquely offers. Well here is some general advice for these reviewers --- Order with common sense....if you don't like peanut butter -- then don't get a sushi roll with peanu... read more

Best Sushi/Sashimi Outside of Nobu – Ginger has to be the best deal in NYC. It sports the freshest sushi/sashimi which is creatively prepared. The Yellow Tail & White Tuna exceed even Nobu but Ginger is easily 1/10th the price. Even the little details like the miso soup are treated with care (& it's grreat btw!!). Ginger is a real charmer as it's a labor of love of the owners & the wonderful staff. You can eat a lot at Ginger, have a saki & still pay only $30 with generous tip. It's small so if you're going with a large grou... read more

Sorry... but not a fan of Skippy on my sushi!!!! – Seems like all the reviews rave about the "unique" rolls the restaurant offers. Yes, there are plenty of unique rolls.... but a tablespoon of peanut butter does not belong on sushi! I only tried it b/c of the positive reviews I read. However, if you're curious but don't think it sounds good, don't try it! Why? Because it does not taste good. I had to scrape each sushi roll clean of peanut butter in order to eat it!!! (btw-- it wasn't even 'all natural' peanut butter... it se... read more

Sushirific – Sushi and a small decor equal a nice neighborhood establishment where folks can enjoy quality food and service for reasonable prices. The place is not cheap mind you, but thats what most people should expect out of sushi that is prepared well.

So-so! – Sushi was just so-so. Special rolls are not special except for a couple. I loved the ikamaru however.

They offer a lot of special rolls. Not so special except for a few. They don't even have red snapper, fluke or uni. Definitely not the place for the adventurous sushi lover.

Superb – Since our first visit there just after they opened a few years ago, Ginger has been our favorite restaurant. The dishes are inventive and fun but rely on basic good quality: consistently fresh ingredients, huge butter-like sushi/sashimi cuts, and reasonable prices. The service is wonderfully unpretentious and familial. Though the menu includes some unorthodox offerings (a peanut butter roll, for instance), the classics are pure and great--we've never had better sushi anywhere, including Japan. And do have fun with t... read more

Not so fresh – I don't understand why this place has gotten so many great reviews. I was very disappointed that their sushi was far below average...wasn't pretty, wasn't fresh, wasnt tasty. True, Ginger is inexpensive, the service was friendly and they make some unique rolls, but personally I rather visit my grocery and get even cheaper sushi of similar or better quality.
