The whole "you get what you pay for" kinda situation where the floors take hours to scrub and they still arent clean, the heat does a great job for the people above us, and the air conditioning actually heats the building. These buildings are so ill maintained I watched my utilities just to 3x the amount turning ANY kind of temperature controlling devices, and the smells you get are sometimes unbearable. One star is actually giving GRE too much credit. I started renting here under a sublease because I had no where else to go. I thought I was settling once I saw the place but I thought I could make it work. Turns out I should have gone somewhere else. The building constantly smells of litter box, hamster cage, and meth. I rented from Gilbert this year and have renewed my lease for another year. The office staff have been very easy to work with and when I had a maintenance issue they would come to my apartment the next day if not that day. My experience had been a very good one with them.
I rented from Gilbert for 2 years and never had a problem with them and have signed another lease with them for 2011 they are letting me transfer my deposit not many companies will do that. My girlfriend also rents from them.
I had a year lease with gilbert in a pet apartment (needless to say, this apartment was in and old basement, the ceilings leaked, mold was everywhere, bugs were crawling in from the holes in the walls, and the place was in a horrible location). I had a dog who lived with me and for a whole year, he never had fleas. I work at a vet so I know what fleas look like, know their breeding/eating habits. I lived in a Gilbert Real Estate owned home for 8 months now and I have come to find out that I signed a lease with the worst renter I have ever experienced. I moved in September and when it got cold we tried to turn on the heat and the furnace doesn't work. The furnace had not ever ever been turned on in the past year. So instead of a gas furnace they decide to put in an electric furnace which then requires a new electric box. Basically maintenance was living at my house for a while.
