Since then, they have been a popular joint offering slow-cooked, hickory-smoked ribs and barbecue, prepared like the old-times in Memphis-style. Had lunch, got the 2 meat combo ribs and shoulder. The shoulder was the star of the plate. Ribs had a great flavor but a bit dry. The coleslaw and beans were good. Sweet tea was off the charts. Met Kenny my waiter and leaned he'd worked there for 19yrs, great guy and great waiter. Only problem I can tell ya is the heavy set guy at the front counter was a bit rude, other than that a great experience with great food. Will definitely return.
Not only is this some of the best BBQ in the world, it's an amazing value and great overall restaurant. 5 stars is barely enough. Do yourself a favor...next time you have a group to feed, order the party pack. If you have guest in town, take them. And if you are hungry in Germantown...this is a can't miss. Btw. Get you some banana puddin
Best bbq chicken in Memphis as far as I'm concerned.
My 2nd visit to the Commissary and same as the first time, it was great...chicken, wonderful; chopped pork, wonderful; baked beans, wonderful....and great customer service...I like Cole slaw with less mayo and pulverized cabbage, but other than that, it was wonderful, even the deviled eggs! Come here if you want "real" Memphis BBQ!
Had some overcooked dried out ribs, should have sent them back but I didn't. Threw the rest in the trash not what I remembered 20+ years ago!

Just stopped on our way through Memphis. Best pork I've ever had!! Banana pudding was amazing!!
