Although our location was built after Bill & Jack Gerlach returned from World War II; however, we say that Gerlach's Bowling Center opened in 1919. The original 4 bowling lanes in Lapeer opened in 1919 above the current Oddfellows building and Bill & Jack worked there before they left for the war. Even though our name was Lapeer Recreation until the late 1980s everyone refer to us as Gerlach's, so a name change to reduce confusion made sense.
