I have been seeing Dr. Stein for four years now. I received his name from Dr. Ira Steinman, a prominent Bay Area psychiatrist. I was hoping to receive help in tapering off mood stabilizers. I have found Dr. Stein to be open-minded, supportive, and available. If he doesn't have expertise in your focus area (for me, tapering/withdrawal), he is willing to learn and open to facilitating the journey you are on. He cancelled my telehealth appointment without letting me know why and didn't reach out to reschedule. I called to get a refill on my medication and he hung up on me.
Had a ten minute telehealth visit to get antidepressants and he said "well I don't think you need them but I will prescribe." 5 months later, I just received a bill for $250. For ten minutes on the phone of him reading through a checklist (any family history of mental illness, do you hear voices, interpret this idiom, etc.). He only prescribed a month's worth so I had to call him again to renew ($95 this time for ten minutes). Had an appointment at 9am I was on the site ready to go paid my copay and everything for him to call 28 minutes later and tell me I was the one who made the mistake by being late and suggested I made another appointment. If I could rate him lower I would he doesn’t even deserve one star. DONT USE GERALD STEIN.
He’s not punctual, personable, patient, thorough, or factual. There is nothing positive about this guy. Veteran’s if this guy is scheduled to do your C&P Exam immediately request another provider. He doesn’t review the specifics of the claim prior to the exam nor is he interested in you providing the specifics of the claim.
