The George Peabody Library contains one of Johns Hopkins University's principal rare books and manuscripts collections and serves as a research center for students, faculty, and other scholars. As part of the Special Collections department of the Johns Hopkins Sheridan Libraries, the library hosts special public exhibitions and programs throughout the year in its exhibition gallery and reading room. It has also become one of Baltimore's premier rental facilities for weddings and social events.

Waste of time! I seen pictures of this library on Pinterest and on traveling websites so I decided to travel from Ohio to Maryland to see this library that i fell in love with. I was so excited to see this library and when I showed up just to find out that you are not allowed to touch any books, go into any of the little cubicle area of the shelfs of books or even up on a different level of the library! It has a pretty interior, but for a library whose original purpose was to “be well furnished in every department of knowledge… for the free use of all persons who may desire to consult it,” it’s a farce that only the ground floor containing historical magazines and encyclopedias is accessible. A complete perversion of the founder’s purpose and an insult to George Peabody. With over 50,000 volumes originally targeted for acquisition, I find it alarming that an overwhelming majority will likely never be picked up off the shelf... read more
I’ve photographed weddings in many beautiful spaces, but the George Peabody Library is truly unforgettable. Towering stacks of books, a warm golden glow, and a stunning spiral staircase make it breathtaking for both ceremonies and receptions. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive, and being steps from Mount Vernon means even more gorgeous portrait spots.
