Closed down, disappointing
When they are done right the ribs are unbeatable, but it's about 50-50 and half the time they aren't so great. Meats are fatty. Really cheap on the extra sauce...haven't they made enough money yet? Not reliable for catering. My friend had booked them and a no show.
several people recommended Gates but I would not. From out of town and ate at Okla Joe's and it was the best! Gates burnt end S/W was filled with fatty meat and no burnt ends! Will not go back to Gates nor recommend it.
This must be the MOST AMAZING BBQ joint I have ever visited. When I was about to move here I did hear that Kansas had a lot of good places to eat, specially my lovely bbq stuff. But trust me, I have never ever tasted such great food till today. This is definitely the best place to stop for food. "Hi, May I Help you?" is belted out upon entry under the signature red roof. Gates is classic. Albeit suffering for overpopularity, the smokestacks late in the night belt out deliciousness in to the greater KC sky. The spicy tomato based sauce ribs with thick fries or a half-n-half beef and ham sandwich are my go-tos. Sure, there are a few other options but on the BBQ trail this is a must.
This if by far the worlds greatest BBQ joint. No one can campare to thier rib, brisket and fries.
Ok,Ok,Ok! I've had Bar-b-q from all over Kansas City and many other Cities, by far this is the BEST IN THE WORLD! The service is great!
