Enjoy a taste of Italy in San Francisco's Richmond District. Each tiny green booth in the restaurant has an individual jukebox that blasts Italian pop music. Wicker baskets and bottles of Italian wine hang from the ceiling. Large paintings of Italy cover the walls. The house specialty is the Margherita pizza, a traditional thin crust Italian pizza with blended Italian cheeses, red sauce and tomatoes. Most other large pizzas are priced lower than the specialty. A great Italian place to go to. It looks super authentic and the people working there are super friendly. When our kid ate some chili flakes, they were so kind to bring us a glass of milk free of charge. We definitely can recommend this place.
Visit 8/31/2025 6pm. First thing that was an issue was a fly in the Parmesan shaker, I thought hey no big deal it happens, then my wife’s spaghetti came out…..sauce was thinned out badly with water, ok, not the best. The pizza came out next, which was actually solid, so I was confused. I walk back to the counter to pay and see the cooks in the back slamming beers, we make eye contact and they continue drinking then go back to making food. I ordered Gnocchi with Alfredo sauce and there were eggshells in the Gnocchis...
Gaspare's is still one of the few San Francisco institutions left. Food is amazing and reasonable, and nothing beats the atmosphere.
Worst Caesar salad ever. It was like watered down mayonnaise on lettuce. Chicken marsala was really bland and the food in general was bismal and disappointing. Only cool thing was the plastic grapes that are draped from the ceiling. I really wanted to love this place.
