My son was more concerned about getting his plastic dinosaur back than about the toilet not flushing. The plumber had to lift the toilet to remove it, then put everything back and tested it. Thankfully, we didn't need a new toilet. The dinosaur is retired from bathroom adventures, and I have a much better understanding of how one tiny toy can interrupt an entire morning.

Buying a water heater was not how we planned to spend that weekend. The base of our toilet was dry, but there was a persistent sewer smell that ordinary cleaning wasn't fixing. The plumber removed the toilet, found a deteriorated seal, and reset it with a new one. I waited several days before deciding whether the repair had helped because the smell had come and gone before. It hasn't returned. I'm glad we investigated instead of buying another bottle of bathroom cleaner.

The hot side of our kitchen faucet had faded to a trickle while every other tap seemed normal. I expected a long hunt for a hidden pipe problem. The plumber found the restriction in the supply valve under that sink and replaced the valve. The visit was less involved than I'd imagined, and nobody tried to make it sound bigger. Filling a pot no longer requires a separate plan for what to do while waiting.

We noticed water seeping from the ground beside the front steps even though nothing nearby had been watered.
