Where do I begin? I came to Emalee at a pivotal moment in my life, not only did she hear me and empathize with where I was but she really gave me that “tough love” guidance on things I had to work on and change in myself in order to navigate some difficult relationships I was in. My husband and I began marriage counseling with Emalee, hoping for a safe and supportive space to address our challenges. I don’t typically write reviews, but after sharing our experience with family and friends, I felt compelled to speak out. Unfortunately, we found our sessions to be insensitive and dismissive. I started seeing Emalee about a year ago with my two older children (11 & 14 at the time) to help make sure we were all coping with the divorce process and their feelings towards their mother and I. I have custody of the kids, and we were trying to iron out the new world order of things, and try to continue to strengthen our relationship. I do not recommend Emalee as a therapist. I had a session with her related to family therapy and I was shocked by her insensitivity and incompetence. I do not usually give negative reviews but in this case I would caution anyone considering going to Emalee for therapy/ advice/ healthy coping skills, etc. It takes a while to find the right fit. Please shop around for qualified, genuine professionals.
Emalee helped my partner and I work through premarital issues. We are so thankful Emalee helped us put in the work before we got married so we can now enjoy the marriage. Being able to know how to successfully communicate now and having worked through the difficulties before marriage was key.
