Everyone was nice, but the most highly-trained health care worker we saw was an LPN. They just came by once in a while to check vitals and make sure the patient wasn't taking too much morphine. The family provided all the patient's care around the clock. There were many intense situations that we were not trained to deal with. If this is what hospice is, it's oversold.
Everyone was super nice, but hospice in general leaves much to be desired. My partner got a bunch of morphine, and I got a phone number to call if I needed advice. Even though I had no training, I was expected to care for him 24/7. A nurse came by a couple of times a week to check his vitals and audit the morphine. That was it. Without a family member who can provide round the clock care, you can't do hospice.
