An intoxicating mix of lovely decor and inspired cuisine. – In Short The Victorian house this restaurant occupies was built in 1908 and features art-nouveau leaded glass over the entrance and gorgeous Southern landscaping. The smoked chicken and andouille gumbo is just spicy enough, creamy with bright overtones. Reputations are made with entrees like the magnificent bacon-wrapped rabbit loin. The chocolate and Key lime-caramel bread pudding is accompanied by caramel-fleur de sel ice cream, a sublimely thick treat filled with... read more
Surprised – I wouldn't recommend this place. The service was extremely slow between courses. The mater d was well, snottie. Our room was very warm.
Adventures in Eating - the right kind! – Shane Ingram, the chef at 4 Square, is wonderful - a food genius. Every meal is a creative exercise, with unusual pairings and fresh ingredients. The service is excellent, and the same staff seem to be there year after year (a good sign). The tables are kind of close together, especially in the upstairs bedrooms, which is wh... read more
YUM! – I only had dinner here once but was very impressed. I started with the turtle soup (spicy) and had the seared tuna dinner; it was incredible. Smokey flavor with melt-in-your-mouth tuna topping creamy spinach and a nutty potato pancake. One of the most memorable meals I have ever had... Then for dessert I had the Citrus Trio, a work of art. Arranged almost like sushi, with three desserts, all tangy and elegant. Really unique flavors. Don't go here for the standard meat-n-potato options, but if you want to try something... read more
My Absolute Favorite Restaurant – I have been dining at Four Square for around three years now. I was introduced to the restaurant by my colleagues when I moved here from New York City. I was skeptical about the restaurants in North Carolina (you know, I'm a New Yorker and all!), but I was amazed at the unbelievable quality of the food (delicious and creative) and service (polished, but not too formal), not to mention the beautiful setting. I am also writing in response to a couple of reviews I've seen posted here about the ... read more
