My objective is to provide high-quality urological care in a sympathetic way. My focus is to apply current knowledge of the relevant urological disease processes in order to help resolve these problems as they become manifest. I am honest and try very hard to satisfy the patients with efficient care, attempting to resolve the problem as noninvasively as possible. We utilize mostly medical but sometimes surgical methods in order to help diagnose and resolve urological problems. Sometimes, problems cannot be altogether resolve... read more

Dr. Fortenberry is as down to earth as any physician can get in my opinion. Contrary to the negative comments, I found him engaging and very informative. I gather he will engage commensurate to his patient's inquistiveness and interest; he will not browbeat or mesmerize you with his knowledge. I had Laser prostate surgery under his charge and it went just as he said it would. His staff is friendly and knowledgable. I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. Keep up the great work Dr. Fortenberry!
Dr. Fortenberry performed holmium laser surgery (HoLEP) on me less than three weeks ago for an enlarged prostate. I was referred to him by my urologist because of Dr. Fortenberry’s long and great track record with HoLEP. He is held in high regard by his colleagues. Very few urologists in the entire country can perform this procedure. Dr. Fortenberry has done nearly 400. At the initial consultation, Dr. Fortenberry could not have been more generous with his time or complete with his explanation of the procedure. I left with c... read more
My husband was fit into the Dr. Fortenberry's schedule for removal of a catheter that Sentara emergency room had inserted for a UTI. We waited until Dr. Fortenberry arrived from surgery. He was yelling at the staff from his office to look for a form he needed. He mentioned that some nurse had tried telling him what to do. The staff mentioned that my husband was waiting for him and asked if the doctor wanted to put him in a room. Dr. Fortenberry said there was no reason to put my husband in a room if the staff person didn't f... read more
Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Did not answer any questions, dismissed my concerns and very unprofessional demeanor. 0 stars worst doctor experience of my entire life.
Had hematuria and was uncomfortable with 1st local urol. so got second opinion from Cleveland Clinic which among other things advised self-cathing to be taught by local urol - that's what led to Dr. F. He spent a long time explaining options and his preferred surgical procedure for me. I opted to proceed and the 4 hour surgery due to enormous prostate and multiple large stones went extremely well. Minimal discomfort afterwards, no stents and fantastic improvement in flow and voiding within 5 weeks. In addition, his nurse Lis... read more
I have been under doctor Fortenberry's care for several years and have always been pleased with his medical expertise and "bedside" manner... His nursing staff is the best! My wait times have always been acceptable - the only time I had to wait a little longer - was due to a medical emergency (if it were me that needed the immediate attention - I would like that consideration). I would recommend Dr. Fortenberry to all my friends. OH, and the Medicare question... NOT an issue here. There has never been an issue at this office... read more

Dr. Fortenberry has been the most wonderful doctor for my husband. Even for minor things he has been great, but for the fairly aggressive cancer that he caught very early, he was fantastic! Having the whole prostate removed due to a tumor can come with lots of side effects, but two years later he has NO side effects! (His cancer was completely removed of course!) This is almost unheard of! He is a fabulous surgeon! Recommended 100%!!
Had surgery for a simple issue and ended up with three problems as a result. He told me that the chance of my problem as a result of the surgery was less than 1 percent. I was told by the surgeon that I later saw at UVA that it was in the 30 percent range. He was very callous and uncaring after he botched things. Looking back, I realize that he not listing himself as a being credentialed as part of the American College of Surgeons or Urology. I am writing this only to help future patients.
