Opened by a team that believes dinner and a movie are a natural combination, this courtyard restaurant and bar keeps an internationally intellectual atmosphere by projecting the films of Fellini, Godard and company on its neighbor’s walls. Tableside speakers add a drive-in feel to the French bistro fare, letting the films function as either the background or a main attraction. Reservations are recommended as Foreign Cinema is one of the leading contestants in the Mission hipness race.

Lovely dining in the Mission – Great service. Pricey (yet delicious) food at small portions. If you don't like being outdoors, request an indoor table when you make reservations. Check out Laszlo (bar) while waiting to be seated. Would come back again... but not regularly.
Amazing experience! – We had dinner there last week, and have eaten there many times in the last year, and have always had a wonderful time. The service has always been excellent. Our last server was really sweet and she was a wealth of knowledge about the huge wine list. We love the atmosphere of the movie, but it is not the place to go if you want to sit and catch every word (even though there are usually subtitles)--it really is more of a restaurant vibe with the movie as backdrop. The food and service has only gotten bet... read more
Great date spot – This is my favortie dating spot especially sitting outside and the food is very reasonably priced. The menu changes often but it is very satisfactory every time.
Highly recommended Brunch! – From the Fried Eggs with deglazed balsamic vinegar to an exemplary Croque Madame paired with a Chimay, this was a very pleasant Sunday brunch. Leave room for cheese for dessert! The Irish Cashel Blue was a creamy marvel. The menu can be daunting for the uninitiated, but well worth the struggle. The wait staff seem either uninformed or trained to wear their indifference on their sleeve. But... once you get past the staff, the food more than makes up for it! Reasonable prices -- $11 per entree, $6 ... read more
Downward Spiral – By a landslide the worst dining experience I've had! I was embarrassed to have brought friends there. Our server came to our table after 30 min. He took our drink order and walked away before everyone had ordered. 20 minutes later, 1/2 of our drinks came. Being there for about an hour we stopped our waiter to ask about our food and he had forgotten what we ordered. After a complaint, the manager was not only not apologetic, but rude. Also, our server knew NOTHING about the menu. My friend asked what Spaten ... read more
Inexcusably Surly Staff – Warning; You may be asked where you prefer to sit when you arrive for your reservation, but your preference is meaningless. You will be taken to any available table in one of three locations regardless of your reservation, and if you don't like it, too bad for you. Evidentially the Staffs m.o. is that since there are always other posers eager to endure abuse for the privelege of dining on overpriced mediorce food while watching old films on a cement wall. Sadly, this seems to be true. Once bitten, t... read more
fallen off the shark – been many times since it opened. Last time was a complete wreck, Server was a fool, knew nothing about the food or wine, then the disaster, the food, bouillabaisse was like tomato soup with a lot of garlic, sea bass was tough! I used to like this place for booking a large party last minute on the weekend. I will do my best not to go back until I hear things have turned around.
Favorite brunch spot in the city – I go here almost montly for brunch and dine on their outdoor patio. Without question, this is my favorite brunch spot in town. The service is relaxed but always reliable and the dishes range from familiar breakfast standards to more lunch-y options. Their morning drink, a French Kiss, is an excellent way to start any Sunday.
Novel restaurant, but overpriced – Foreign Cinema has a unique theme and uncommon space (an indoor-outdoor combo), but I thought the entrees were unfortunately overpriced. My girlfriend and I split 2 appetizers (a baked cheese dish and a soup), an entree (cod with asparagus), dessert, and a drink. $80 later, my hunger was not sated. Although the food was excellent, I don't see myself going back any time soon.
