My friends love to come to this place and I think it does not beat out Mellow Mushroom. Over-rated in my opinion. The last time we were there the computers were down and we were quoted 30 minutes and afte and hour and a half of waiting I convinced my friends to eat somewhere else. For being Italian food, the service should be quicker
A taste of sophisticated Italy at modest prices in Glenwood South. – In Short The noise level is energetic, but the space is segmented enough for easy conversation. Brick warehouse walls and a sleek wood bar greet guests upon arrival, while two floors of intimate tables line Venetian plaster walls. Pizzas coming out of the traditional wood-fired brick oven are topped with inventive items such as salsa or squash--or the stand-bys of pepperoni or mushrooms. Spaghetti bolognese is slathered in homemade marinara and satisfying I... read more
518 Has great food and atmosphere – I had a Pasta dish at 518 on this last visit and it was really good. It did take quite a while before our waiter ever arrived - I would say 10 minutes at the table before we even got water or silverware. Once the food came though, all was forgotten. I think they have a good menu with variety and at a reasonable price. 518 is an old warehouse type building and is very comfortable and airy. If you want to impress your boss or preacher, try reserving the table next to the lion-head fountain. ... read more
I enjoyed myself.... – I was very pleased with my boyfriend and I's date last night at the 518 Off Glenwood South. The Spinach dip was wonderful and full of flavor and I was pleased. The presentation was very very up to standard and so was the flavor in all of our meal. Bread before your meal really says something about a restaurant and the bread was wonderful. It is very properly priced and affordable. I had one of the best portabellas of my life there last night. I was pleased and will go back again. I am quite suprised wi... read more
Bad service, sarcastic attitude – My husband and I stopped by about 10:00 one night for dessert and we waited for the hostess and she FINALLY came. We sat down and it took so long for someone to come wipe off the table, I did it myself. The bartender finally came to help us, but by that point, we were on our way out the door. I happened to see the manager and told him about it and he was sarcastic.
Great romantic spot – I like the open, organic feel of this restaurant--rosemary bushes line the front entrance, warm tone on the walls, great natural light by day and mood light at night. The food is great and in line with prices for the Glenwood area. I've never had any problems with the service--prompt and friendly. Terrific anniversary or date location.
Still enjoy eating here as often as possible – Surprised at the negative reviews. This is pretty much the spot that got Glenwood south of the ground. It can be very loud depending on where you sit, but thats some of the fun of it for me as your conversation gets an odd intimacy as it's drowned out by all the others. I tend to always order the crab or the whole wheat fettucini and usually go with the heavy but delicious shrimp and scallops bienville for appetizer. The service has slipped a bit since it's heyday, but still goo... read more
not what i expected – i was hoping for a romantic evening with my girlfriend for her birthday. i thought this would be a romantic spot. it was not. very loud, we sat a row over from the bar, right behind the hostess station. that did not impress me. i thought the dress was casual, very nice, but it was not. we were dressed very nicely, most of the people were in jeans, t-shirts, and tennis shoes, not the atmosphere i was looking for. the food was good price, but not what i wanted the evening to be.
Save money and impress a first date – I wish I had known about this place before. I took an old girlfriend here for V-day. The staff was great and the food was pretty good and better yet...affordable. If you want to try something new, check this place out. The dress is casual so leave your suit and tie at home.
