Imagine a sea of enormous, luminous, purple jellyfish magically floating above an elegantly dressed crowd of martini-sipping elite, and you will be in Farallon. People stand elbow-to-elbow in the bar at this Union Square destination, sipping on their pricey cocktails. The food, such as sea urchin gratin and black-truffled Dungeness crab, is delicious, beautiful and expensive. Overall, Farallon provides a whimsical, aquatic dining experience with service as exquisite as the glass sculptures that populate the ceiling.

must have been there on an off night... – having had our share of top notch dining experiences throughout the world, our dinner at farrallon this past sunday night was, well, not even near the middle. nothing, except for the decor, met our expectations. the food lacked greatly in creativity and there was not one dish, that any of the 6 in my party had, which was memorable. the service was extremely superficial and impersonal. e.g. not even the most basic rule of napkin folding when a diner got up to go to the bathroom was fo... read more
Why complain about the Price – When I was unable to get into Masa, I called Farallon and booked a table for one. I had been to this great place only once before and although not my first choice, it will be the first place I return to next time in San Francisco (even if it is just for a layover) Wow, Everything was first rate and a great and well organized wine list ( this must be a new San Francisco trend) Their take on Seafood is inspirational and the waitstaff was cordial and gracious. When chatting with a water, I mention... read more
you may get what you don't wish for – very expensive, small portions! I don't mind paying the price, but I don't like to leave a restaurant hungry.
Excellent restaurant – I have eaten in all the best restaurants in California. Great ones in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Farallon is one of the best. The food was excellent. Everything was cooked very well. I've been there three times now and the menu was different each time. Two visits were separated by less than a month. I enjoy taking guests there when they're looking to be wowed. The decor is great. The service is great. I recomend this restaurant to anyone that lives in San Francisco, and anyone who is visiting.
Great meal!!! – Every aspect of our meal was perfect at Farallon. The food was outstanding and the sercice was better than any I've had in the city.
Go for a drink only – I think this restaurant is sooo pretty, I absolutely love the decor. That being said they really need to work on their food portions. I am a 115 lbs. girl who never leaves a restaurant hungry until I went their. NEVER again will I eat there or should I say barely graze there. Especially for the price you pay. I'd go for a cocktail but I'm afraid that's it.
good seafood the seafood here is really fresh. i really like the taste! it seems very different here than all the other seafood places i go to. nice view and really fancy.
Overrated – I brought out-of-town friends here, and I can't believe I wasted their one SF dining experience at Farrallon. The decor was different, but not in a good way. The food was very expensive, and we all left hungry even though we had three courses. We spent a ton and would have been better off grabbing a slice of pizza down the street. Not recommended!
A celebrated under-the-sea setting and extravagant takes on seafood lure crowds to this pricey destination. – The Scene The famous blown-glass jellyfish chandeliers, sinuous lines and cheeky aquatic motif create a submarine dreamworld--this is premier dining, Lost City of Atlantis style. Older well-heeled patrons, special-occasion visitors and curious tourists alike are served with pomp. The Food The oft-changing seasonal menu offers lushly presented seafood dishes that are consistently elaborate and sometimes inspired. Play... read more
