What makes a couple come all the way from California for the third time to stay at this hotel? For me, it is the beautiful sprawling grounds, the large and comfortable rooms, the 4 inches of rain (it doesn't rain in California), the peacefulness of a slower and simpler lifestyle and the green landscape everywhere you look.
They leave a card on your door stating they make the beds and run sweeper. We had a day when neither was done. I feel we were over charged that day. I’ve stayed here several times in the past. Place could do with some redecorating. Great location, breakfast was okay and dinner at the restaurant was good. I visit the area twice a year sometimes. May look into other options.
I have been coming to the Essenhaus since the 70's. It's my getaway for good food, a peaceful stay, and some fun shopping.
