I have been seeing Dr. Miller for a few months now and I have had a great experience so far. He has been working with me to set goals and guide me in working towards them. He's been very helpful in giving advice, without thrusting his opinions. I have benefitted a lot from his counselling so far.

I saw Dr Miller two years ago at the Stanford student counseling center. We did not last very long. In the intake, he asked me question after question about my (rather traumatic) childhood. Me, wanting to be a good client, answered them as well as I could. He did not seem to notice that I was completely overwhelmed with the whole situation. I was dissociated for most of the session (I couldn't feel or move most of my body; my vision was gone; large chunks of memory are missing) and I was completely retraumatized afterwards. ... read more

I have thought long and hard about whether to leave a public review of a service as individualized as psychotherapy but I had bad enough of an experience with this provider that I felt the urge to forewarn prospective clients. Dr. Miller's focus on "evidence-based" interventions was so strong that it blinded him to common sense. He said that he intentionally ignored some of the things I told him because my reported experience did not match the statistics he knew.
