Great local theater in cool old schoolhouse built by WPA.
We attended Ensemble Stage performance of "Alive and Well". I had never heard of the play, and did not know what to expect. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance of the 2 person cast. Scott Douglas Wilson was a tour de force in the lead role of a rural Virginian, Confederate re-enactor with relationship and financial problems, but a big heart and a big dream. The play was fun. Building smelled musty.
Full disclosure: I music directed their Christmas program in 2023 and 2024, but I have seen other programs here as well, and the quality of their productions as well as the heart behind them are excellent! Banner Elk is so fortunate to have Ensemble Stage.
