EN Japanese Brasserie is the first US venture for the brother-sister restaurateur duo, Bunkei and Reika Yo. The menu is completely Japanese and the chef, Koji Nakano does his best to give you the authentic Japanese cuisine. You could try the restaurant's signature menu or select other delicacies as per your taste. Saikyo black cod in miso, crispy snow crab tempura and avocado roll for sushi or Konnyaku for vegetarians are a few of the available items. Also, keep a check on the brasserie's event schedule. Very good japanese – A friend who lives near this restaurant recommended it to me, and my wife and I went there for lunch. We took the bento lunch with miso cod that many of the reviews mention here. We also ordered 4 small kyoto-style dishes (the waiter's recommendations on those were excellent). Everything was excellent. We would go again. We didnt order any Sushi or other standard fare.
Citysearch Editorial Review – EN Japanese Brasserie fancies itself as an izakaya, a Japanese pub, but the sleek space, high ceilings and giant windows demonstrate a different identity, one far more in keeping its neighborhood’s tony environs than its faraway siblings (the owners also run several restaurants in Japan). Although the menu changes seasonally, always on offer is the house specialty: scooped tofu, made hourly during dinner service. Fish gets flown in daily for the sushi, sashimi and sushi rolls, but vegetables, in... read more
My Favorite! – This was my second time at En. The first time I came with my boyfriend, I promised myself I would be back. The second time around, I was not disappointed. I ordered several dishes including the black cod and fried rice. They were both amazing!! Loved it. I am craving them both as I write this review. I think I may have to stop by again and order them as take out! Its expensive but the food and service is worth it.
EN Has Gone Down Hill – I have frequented this restaurant before and have found that the qualities that once made this restaurant superior are now lost. En's specialty is Tofu and they were out of two of the favorite tofu dishes. The waiter tried to have me order a Tofu dish that I did not want without telling me that the two dishes I did want were not available. I should have walked out. This waiter was brash making fun of my mother with another waiter laughing out loud in Japanese because she didn't like the dish she had o... read more
Editorial Review – A stunning setting for sushi-weary New Yorkers to expand their Japanese dining vocabulary.
great place – My favorite restaurant in the city. It is expensive but it has great ambiance, beautiful dishes and everything tastes wonderful.
delicious I ate there with my wife. We had the EN Kaiseki set menu. It was a delicious plethora of food that we were not familar with. I was way more impressed with this place than I had been at Nobu which is kind of interesting since Nobu get's such good reviews but I guess it's because you are getting what you expect there and most people are happier with that and they are on TV.
AMAZING RESTAURANT – This place is beautiful. I travel a lot, I look at a lot of architecture and if I ever made a restaurant I would rip off EN from floor to ceiling. May be not completely, but I would definitely take my liberties. To me dining is more than just eating it encompasses the entire experience, I think that's why it's such a popular experience for dating, and this place is totally perfect for a beautiful experience. I had the amazing kaiseki menu which was a perfect 8 courses, it kind of shocked me to see the pa... read more
authentic Japanese, delicious, fresh – This restaurant is the closest I've found to the food I had in Tokyo. Although the interior is very New York, with high ceilings and a loft-like feel, everything else - the presentation, the service, and most of all the cooking - the cooking is straight outta Japan. Sushi is here but is not the focus - rather try some of the smaller plates, like Crispy Sea Bass, Fresh Tofu (so creamy!), Mochi Croquette, Stone Grilled Beef. Do as they do in Japan, and order a bunch of plates for the tabl... read more
