El Portal Sedona Hotel - A Favorite! We stayed at El Portal back in March and had a wonderful time. Our room was the "Grand Canyon" and it was grand indeed! Beams made from tree trunks, gorgeous fireplace (with a fire going already when we got there!), a view of the red rocks from our very private patio, sunken tub...We had "happy hour" around the fire pit in the courtyard, with wine and cheese and great olives. Outstanding This place is awesome! It is a mix between a bed & breakfast and a 5 star hotel. Nestled in the hill side, the place is small (12 rooms I believe) with a central courtyard that draws you there for the evening wood fire. Several of the units accept pets as well. The food served in the dining room was very good, but there was nothing included with the room rate.
