Good Eats We spend a fair amount of time in San Juan Capistrano for soccer. This restaurant was referred to us by another soccer family. This is a fabulous Mexican restaurant. I love chimichangas and theirs are fantastic. We have been to this place several times and have been pleased each time. The setting is very casual and there isn't much ambiance. However, the food definitely makes it a worthwhile trip.

prepare to get jipped – Unfortunately, I cannot agree with the other reviewers in terms of this restaurant due to a number of things 1.They are overpriced, I have been to other Mexican restaurants and their dishes werent quite as expensive as this one, I think it is a tourist trap 2. Home style Mexican food – El Maguey has a spectacular location, just half a block from the Mission Parish. Everything is homemade! My absolute favorite is the grilled carne asada with fresh guacamole, rice, beans and corn tortillas all covered in their infamous house salsa. I have been going to this establishment for years and would recommend it to any tourist exploring San Juan!
Best Authentic Mexican This is my number one spot for authentic Mexican. Not touristy at all and is much better than the touristy El Adobe nearby. Friendly staff. I've been going to this place for 15 or more years and their quality has remained exceptional the whole time. All dishes are excellent. I like the carnitas tostada, the chicken en mole as well as any number of super combination plates. Prices very reasonable.
Had lunch here on Saturday for the first time. Food (taco, tamale) were a little disappointing, service was average.
Best Mexican Food in South Orange County – If you are a lover of true Mexican food this is the place to go. The beans and rice alone are to die for. Excellent mole, wonderful chile rellenos, great posole; those are just a few of their highlights.
