Bugsy Siegel once owned a piece of El Cortez Hotel Casino before building the Flamingo Hotel on the Strip. This structure retains much of its original look and atmosphere from the early 1940s. While the atmosphere and charm are original the guest rooms are thoroughly modern and comfortable. Since the Fremont Street Experience was built, this hotel is in a very good location, just a short block from the entrance. The casino is the longest running in all of Las Vegas and features all the classic slots and table games.

Old Vegas baby – It?s Classic old Vegas hotel that is still privately owned. It has lost of history and used to be own by Buggy Segal in the early 1940?s. I asked for a smoking room and all the smoking rooms are conceded the ?vintage rooms?. I liked the idea I was staying in the vintage side of the hotel for nostalgic reasons, but I was a bit concerned that it would be a scary ugly dirty room, but it was very nice looking!!! Very clean and remodeled like everything else was. The climate control in the room was work great. Th... read more
Old school Vegas – The El Cortez is in the older Fremont sections of town and it is pretty much what you expect...and older crowd, smoky atmosphere, lots of locals, cheap food, and no frills whatsoever. The best thing about the place is the fact that your money earns you a lot more playing time that anywhere on the Strip...so if you want to gamble, this is great...if you want all of the luxury of Vegas, go somewhere else.
Average Stay – Stayed there this weeknd and wasn't that thrilled with the rooms. Food was ok. Not my greatest experince in Vegas.
Sense of Pride Taken in The Upkeep of Their Rooms – There was a period of a week or so where I was hotel hopping between moving dates between apartments. My last night I booked a room on vegas.com for Queen Vintage room at $29! I was familiar with the El Cortez reputation, had never been there. I even laughed with my friends about what an excellent photographer they must have hired... now, I am not so sure. The pictures really gave the room justice. Sliding glass doors for the shower, polished brass bathroom fixtures. Comfy ... read more
A favorite haunt for old-timers. – The Scene Opened in 1943, this legendary casino enjoys the loyalty of its longtime regulars in a smoky atmosphere reminiscent of downtown's early days. The venerable property sits a couple of blocks east of the bustling Fremont Street Experience. It offers nothing fancy, but you can count on the basics. The Details Color television is among the amenities in the 299 guest rooms and 14 suites. Hearty porterhouse steaks and slabs of prime rib are long-standing favorites at Roberta's Café.
