El Chico Caf is a restaurant chain that specializes in Mexican cuisine. Its story began in 1926, when Adelaida Cuellar's homemade tamales drew huge crowds at a small county fair. In 1940, her sons opened a cafe in Dallas that served enchiladas prepared by using their mother's recipes. Since then, the group has grown to a chain that owns, operates and franchises more than 100 restaurants throughout the South and Canada. The chain s menu includes a variety of fajitas, tacos, burritos, desserts, appetizers and salads. Its resta... read more

Great Mexican Restaurant! El Chico is a great Mexican restaurant. They have a large variety of items and everything I have had was good. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is clean. I would recommend El Chico.
Dropped in to El Chico last night. As usual everything was delicious. Our server, Julia, was really sweet and gave us just the right amount of attention. My son is kind of picky, so he always orders something a little different than the menu actually offers. They're really flexible about it and always get it right. The manager remembered us, and stopped by to see that everything was the way we like it. I think that is why we like it there - great food AND personal attention. You can't get that at a lot of restaurants around ... read more
The mixed grill fajitas are fantastic! The vegetables were hot but still a bit crispy which I like. The white cheese sauce is a must.
Worst Food I've ever had! – This had to be the worst food I've ever eaten. I eat mexican at least once a week and sometimes even 3 or 4 times a week. My "Fajita Chimichanga" was awful! There wasn't a "fajita" aspect to it and it tasted like they bought it out of the freezer section at Walmart and cooked it in the microwave. I literally ate 2 bites. I had also ordered the "fried icecream" - There was nothing "fried" about it. I took a bite of it and was finished. After seeing how much I didn't eat, the waitress told me I had ... read more
Horrible experence – First thing thru the door and a sour stench hit us in the face. Not sure what it was but it didnt get any better in the bathroom either. The mens bathroom smelled like a nasty nursing home. The urine smell was horrible. My 12 year old daughter said that the womens wasnt any better. The waitress was nice and helpful at least. When our food arrived it was the worst Mexican we have ever had. I got the lunch fajitas and they were $9.95 and there was barely anything there for the money. My wife got the taco d... read more
El Chico is just O.K. – It was Cinco de Mayo so is was busy. The service was O.K., not great. The food was also O.K., tasty, plentiful. The tortilla chip were kind of greasy and the salsa was really not good. The margaritas were weak at best. I probably would not go back since there are so many good Mexican restaurants in the general area.
Serving up heaping portions of Mexican favorites since 1940. – In Short This Southern chain serves Tex-Mex and Mexican staples to large groups and families who come to gab over unlimited chips and hearty food staples. The Southwestern decor features bright colored walls and thick terracotta-tiled floors. Classic El Chico combinations, around since the company started in 1940, heap tamales, cheese enchiladas and refried beans on one plate. Tex-Mex items represent tastes for fajitas, soft tacos and enchiladas verde.
James Westborn's Review: My family and I just bought a place in Cross Plains, Tenn. We are 30 miles North of this resturant. Coming from Southern California, we have had authentic Mexican food and some of the best is in Ca. My wife first visited this place and said I should try it, so we went. It was OK. Nothing to jump up and down about. Every Mexican place in Tenn. seems to have salsa out of a can. Ask your mexican cooks to make their own. Most will far out-do the canned stuff. The decor on this place was better than most ... read more
