The Edinburg Center is like the Hotel California. "We are programmed to receive You can check out any time you like But you can never leave". Very few clients if any move on from their services to independent living. The clients are "cash cows". To be fair the entire mental health system is like this in Massachusetts. Without "clients" there would be no mental health system.
Not the best place for mental health issues. They seem to have very little training on the reality of bipolar disorder and mania, which scares them a lot. Honestly, I don’t feel like a patient..I feel more like a joke to them. It’s so unprofessional how they communicate with us. I’m a person who has feelings.
Why is schizophrenia one of the most tragic of diseases? It runs a course through a patient that shunts and dashes away strength and fortune. Most people with schizophrenia don't have many friends or family who accept them and want to spend time with them. It may not be disfiguring or as disturbing to look at as some diseases but the inner turmoil is intense. It is so hard to push on past failure after failure as even treaters become impatient. Try this for a prospectus... The life of a patient with lived experience of a mental Illness is terrible. Incarceration. Poverty. Isolation. Drug addiction. Well, at the Edinburg Center, the goal is to reduce the true risks of living with an altered mental status. The onus is on the patient, as well as on the clinician, to ameliorate as many risk factors as possible. Cheers, Daniel W.
On my medication regimen my sleep was awful with the Edinburg Center. Staying up, nervous until 11 pm. Thinking, "Oh no, now I won't sleep all night." Waking up at 11:30 pm, 1 am, 2 am, 3 am - to walk or cycle 5.5 miles to Market Basket in Waltham. Advocates Inc. has been a step in the right direction. My sleep is much improved. Despite the positive change for the better, I have not taken on gratitude for my sleep as much as I want.
