We walked up to the MET to see a couple of the new exhibits. Then we walked back towards midtown and decided to stop at E.A.T. For lunch. We looked inside but decided to sit at one of the covered outside tables. Service was quick and professional. We ordered a chopped liver sandwich and a Turkey club on multi grained bread. EAT looks great from the outside but the restaurant is very busy with some tight seating in some areas. Service is attentive but when we were ready to leave it was hard getting the bill. My wife loved her blintzes but my salad combo was just okay. Egg salad was fine but the tabbouleh was a little different than how I have had it before. Best bite was the pastries we grabbed at their takeout counter, full of chocolate buttery goodness.

E.A.T. lives up to its simple, confident name where it matters most — the food is genuinely excellent, with high quality ingredients and well-crafted dishes that make every bite worthwhile. It's clearly a place that takes its food seriously and it shows. Service and atmosphere are both average though, which feels like a missed opportunity for a gourmet spot of this caliber on the Upper East Side. With more attentive service and a warmer, more inviting space, E.A.T. could be an absolute destination.
