If you’re anywhere near the Galena area, you’ve got to stop by Terrapin Station Cafe. I don’t say this lightly. Their paninis are hands down the best, not just in Elizabeth but probably anywhere around Galena. The bread is perfectly pressed, everything tastes fresh, and it’s one of those meals you end up thinking about later. Honestly though, it’s not just the paninis. Really nice place, very friendly staff. They happily helped work around a dietary restriction and quickly whipped up a delicous wrap so I could get back on the road. The chipotle mayo was excellent.
Everyone was so pleasant, especially the woman who took our order and brought us our food. All of our coffees were very good, as was the frozen lemonade. The paninis were also good, but the only we would have done is swapped a different cheese for the American cheese on the grilled cheese. A side pickle would have nice too.
Fantastic experience, top to bottom--a must-stop. Beautiful antique decor with modern appointments; inviting atmosphere with top-notch products and customer-focused service; with local art and locally-produced items on offer. Then, there's the coffee. No joke, Jen at Terrapin Station Cafe makes THE BEST cup of coffee anywhere around, and I challenge anyone to prove otherwise. It's like a massage for your brain and soul. Starbucks just got turtle-punched by Terrapin.
