Dutch Village is situated 200 feet above the Hudson River on land discovered by Henry Hudson during his exploration on the "Halfmoon" in 1609. Fourteen years later, what is now Albany was established as a trading port called Fort Orange. When the British acquired all Dutch possessions in North America, several patroonships were offered to wealthy Dutch families.
