You’ll come away worse than you went in; the psych equivalent of a nosocomial infection. Telling your patient that you’re angry with them for their lack of progress, which is their own fault due to “spinning their wheels,” is not exactly top-shelf clinical practice. Telling them, too, that their response to EMDR for trauma treatment was “much too loud” because you “do have neighbors in this building” is asinine on its face. Unskilled, unprofessional, and utterly unsympathetic.
Counseling a married couple to stay together when you are aware of the severity of abuse in the relationship is so WRONG. Counseling those same people on an individual basis at the same time is even more WRONG. Highly unethical.
