I have been in therapy for several years to help treat several complex issues. I only started taking medication about two years ago and I have to say that I made more progress in just a few months working with Dr. Brunell than I had previously working with several different professionals. I highly highly recommend Dr. Brunell! He's quirky, but he is a gem. Not many psychiatrists offer medication management and psychotherapy in tandem, but Dr. Brunell has truly mastered both. I had almost given up on mental healthcare until I... read more
I absolutely love Dr. Brunell. He has been incredibly helpful. It's great to have someone who does medication management AND therapy. He really treats the whole person and tries to (subjectively) have you quantify your experiences to understand a general trend in how treatment is going.
He is a very thorough and competent psychiatrist. He did put a lot of thoughts into the selection of my medication and read and reviewed with me all of my past relevant medical records. Frequent check-ins in a year have helped me to adjust medications as needed as circumstances have changed. ...actively manages your mental health and is not just a pill dispenser... pays attention to things like your weight, sleep, nutrition, life's circumstances, and any and all side effects
Yes, he makes you fill out a questionnaire while you wait for your appointment...every appointment. It's tedious when your answers aren't changing anymore. And he makes you go through an epic questionnaire when you start out but I see these things as an attempt to quantify your problems since his main deal is figuring out what medicine to prescribe. And he knows his medicines inside and out. The office itself leaves much to be desired and the secretary seems generally flustered and confused.
Look further for your mental healthcare professional. He'll get you medication if thats what you need, but his bedside manner and every other functionality of his office was a nightmare- office was like a shack and unwelcoming, his secretary was aloof, odd and scary. He begged for my money when I hadn't paid an extremely small copay after 2 weeks. I ran out of his office sobbing my eyes out after explaining that I needed to buy food that week, as I was a college student. Look. Further.
Fundamentally flawed approach to treatment. All based on survey questions - might be great for diagnosing 100 people at a time, but on an individual basis it's not effective, and doesn't inspire confidence.
