The person at the front desk and Dr. Boetel's nurse were both very friendly. I was glad I had read the previous reviews so I was prepared for either a condescending doctor or a friendly one. l Dr. Boetel was very friendly and explained my MRI to me and gave me the choice to call in if I needed anything or I could have set up an appointment. I like that as I don't want to go see a Dr. unless I really need to.

I did NOTexperience any of the rudeness others stated below. I found Dr. Boetel competent, polite, he listened, devised a plan, and didn't minimize my pain.

A rude, condescending person. Perhaps a knowledgeable doctor, but hard for patients to see that side when taken aback by utter arrogance and careless attitude toward patients complaints. Will not be going to see him again. Unfortunately, this is second Sanford Dr. I have seen and notice similar personality traits in both, which are not appealing. After more than 20 years with Sanford I think it is time to move-on. A change the way staff and doctors treat, view, respond to patients has occurred. Perhaps they need some outside... read more

I saw Dr. Boetel Tuesday, June 30th in Sioux Falls, S.D.. After these reviews, wondered if I was making a mistake. After the appointment, I knew I had not. He was kind, understanding, asked me questions and allowed me to ask him questions. I did NOT at all see him as rude, condescending, or arrogant.

As others have written, and probably more elegantly than I can, this "doctor" is truly the most condescending, rude, nasty physician I have ever encountered. He basically entered the room, looked at me, and told me I didn't "look like a person who was in pain." Okay... so much for the diagnostic technique. He then basically accused me of being a drug seeker, although I went to him, and made it clear, that I went to see him to avoid taking drugs. He rattled off a list of things that I could try. I had brought a TENS machine (... read more

This "doctor" was rude, condescending, unhelpful, and arrogant. His "information" was contradicted by other specialists I have seen. The intake person who saw me before I could get an appointment at the spine center told me that their number one goal was to avoid surgery. Boetel certainly lived up to that; concern for patients, avoiding further injury and damage, and/or pain management did not appear to be even on the radar with this man. At the end of the exam, he announced that I appeared to be physically capable of doing ... read more

I had an MRI per his order (chronic back pain S1 L5), which showed very little difference from previous MRIs; so he basically just sent me along and told me to keep on keeping on. Long story short, I had a little time to digest our conversation and I don’t know why this doctor would deny me a visit with a neurosurgeon. I called the office back (maybe 30 minutes after I met with Dr. Boetel), and I got called back within minutes to come back and meet with my neurosurgeon. I ultimately received back surgery and during surgery i... read more

I would never recommend this doctor. He was inconsiderate, condescending, uninformed, and unwilling to address my health issue. He made judgement before I said anything, and did not give information to help me with this health issue. I feel that I and my insurance donated money to him, as he did nothing to deserve payment.

Was very helpful. Have bulging disk from a car accident and he was able to perform surgery using radio frequency to burn the nerves in my back, this procedure helped reduce the pain from bulging disc
