This doctor makes a good first impression, but over time, you will have issues that result in risks to you and your family's health. My experience included costly, ineffective tests that delayed treatment, unsubstantiated diagnoses, and absurd recommendations (like taking laxatives, smoking marijuana and watching Netflix series to cure non-existent issues). Even his peers at Scripps have since questioned his judgment, which is rare to see. I have never had any issues with any health care providers in 50 years. Take the negat... read more

I have had my own doctor (board certified internist) in Hemet for over 20 years (I am mid-50's). When I moved to Encinitas in 2017, I decided to see Dr. Sexton for the 'minor stuff' such as a cold. I found that Sexton was excessively talkative and seemed distracted in my visits. Sexton also seemed to hold the opinion that 'the mind' was responsible for many health issues. In addition, even though I had my own doctor, Sexton kept pushing to take over my medications that my doctor of 20 years had been treating me with. Foolish... read more

We like Dr. Sexton; he's friendly and runs a tidy practice. However, he is dangerous. He made multiple, serious errors in my drug prescriptions, the last of which landed me in the hospital for a month. Over the last year and a half he prescribed several medications that either should not be prescribed for people with my conditions or, worse, have well-known interactions with my primary medications. As my PCP, it was his responsibility to check for contraindications, so now reviewing the medications he prescribed it is shocki... read more

I was with Dr. Perry for a couple of years. I had certain ailments that were not being addressed properly because Dr. Perry did not look at the root cause. He is more prone to prescribing medication to treat a condition. I visited a functional medical doctor after years of not being happy with his prognosis. Dr. Perry was unwilling to partner with another doctor or add on various tests to my lab work. He stated "having more data is not necessarily valuable." I switched my primary care doctor, and I am much happier. My doctor... read more

I am one of the patients who gives Dr, Sexton 5 stars. As others say, he is extremely empathetic. While sitting in the waiting room, I have noticed that he follows his patients back to the front desk and makes sure they have the paperwork filled out properly, and to answer their last minute questions. He does not hide behind formality. I respect his character and medical experience absolutely.

I would strongly NOT recommend Dr. Sexton. My initial "meet and greet" entailed 45 minutes of him pontificating on the Covid Vaccine. I could handle that, but when he started politicizing the vaccine and candidates and even news outlets, I was done. That was my first and last appointment with that guy!

After I moved from Carlsbad to San Diego I initially left Dr Sexton as a patient with hopes I would be able to find a doctor as great as him in San Diego. After 2 years and 3 different doctors, it was an easy decision for me to return to Dr. Sexton, even if it means I have 30 miles drive now to see him. His "bedside" manners are outstanding, I always feel cared about and listened to, never rushed. More often than not he comes up with solution that do not involve medications, but rather solutions like, posture, shoe inlays, p... read more

I had the same experience as the reviewer who said he pushes pills til you’re dependent then denies refills. Interesting that he is also is in the business of treating addiction at other facilities. He violated my confidentiality and lied about me to another patient! Incredibly unprofessional.

If you're thinking of going to Dr. Sexton I encourage you to read all of the bad reviews online first. He was my doctor for many years and I refused to believe the horror stories until recently. There are numerous allegations of patient confidentiality being breached, gaslighting, pushing pills and then refusing refills once patients become desperate, or, in my case, neglecting to communicate very grave medical test results. He has cultivated a creepy cult-like atmosphere and his office staff act like callous snobs whose onl... read more
