I had an appointment with this provider for a VA evaluation and my experience was positive. He was fair, understanding, and communicated clearly throughout the appointment. He took the time to explain things and allowed me to speak without feeling rushed or dismissed. I know there are a couple of negative reviews on here, but I would encourage people not to let one or two bad reviews determine their opinion. I'm still traumatized by my exam with him. Dismissed my trauma because I was not a "male soldier in Iraq." Let that sink in. Imagine everything you have been through doesn't matter because this "Doctor" compares you to someone else, at another time, in another country. He also down graded my previous rating, all because I was not a male soldier in Iraq. The damage he has caused. Unbelievable he is in this career field.
Veterans BEWARE!!!! I had a terrible experience with Dr. Michael Zakaras during my VA C&P exam for PTSD. The entire 35-minute phone call was unprofessional and dismissive. I was only allowed to speak for about two minutes total, with each of my responses cut off within 30 seconds. Instead of conducting a proper evaluation, Dr. Zakaras repeatedly steered the conversation toward old Chicago sports figures—completely irrelevant to my condition. Dr. Zakaras was 100% the best therapist I’ve worked with - and growing up in foster care, I’ve gone through my share. He was great with my kids, one of whom is special needs. If you’re unhappy with him because of SSI stuff, I’d look to the SSI process. He is thorough and really does care for his patients. I don’t know anyone who’d continue working through medical issues like he did. Still gave 1000% even when he didn’t have it to give.
