Dr Leyba was very clear about the procedure that went from a 4-5 hr surgery to 7 hour due to the extent of issues. He and his staff have been very clear and very personable. He made sure his 84 yr old patient and family understood the benefits and risks of the surgery. His robotic surgery was a huge success. 2.5 weeks after surgery and you couldn’t tell this 84 yr ok patient w/lots health issues. Our experience was nothing but positive.
Dr. Leyba is super friendly and knowledgable.
Dr. Leyba is a good surgeon even though you primarily interact with students & assistants. I was told that his medical assistant would call me in a few days after surgery with my biopsy results. I NEVER heard from her - even though I called at least a dozen times begging and pleading for my results. Each time I called they said she was unavailable and would call me back. I finally got them a month & a half later after my follow up with Dr. Leyba. I lived in constant fear for a month and a half
Doc and his staff are fantastic. 5 days from diagnosis to surgery. They explained every detail in depth. The day of surgery Doc and his staff had me laughing and completely relaxed. After 3 weeks of recovery my 3 incisions have all but disappeared. Fantastic !!!
He cancelled abdominal surgery on my wife twice. The first cancellation was due to a conference he suddenly had to attend. The second was for a family emergency, four weeks later. The family preparation involved in getting ready to support someone from this type of surgery is impressive and takes a lot of planning. This means to bring in extra family support to care for the kids, sick leave requests from work for those involved in post-op care. Dr Layba and his staff do not care!!
Some shocking issues with these folks in relation to major abdominal surgery I had: 1) No accurate warning of the time I would need off to recover, 1 day changed to 14, leading to disaster at work 2) They pumped me full of opioids, no knowledge or agreement on my part, which caused predictable intense side effects that destroyed the operation, mentioned it to Leyba he just shrugged like 'whatever'.. 3) Double billed me because they screwed up the charges with insurance, I had to pay.
Extremely arrogant. Waited over an hour in the lobby. Once I was in, he never took the time to read my medical history or the volumes of tests, CT's or the Mayo Clinic work ups. Instead, he grilled me and my wife for 30 minutes on my pain and symptoms and asked what I thought the problem was... My opinion, if you have a hernia, he is the one, if you have major issues, stay away. If he doesn't know it, he will send you though the loop to make you look like the issue. No bedside manner.
Knowledgeable and friendly. Does not rush when you have questions. Surgery was successful. Office staff also helpful and reassuring.
Extremely bad bed side meaner!
