Dr. Castro goes above and beyond. How many pediatricians do you know that will take off-hr calls themselves and get back to you promptly? Not just brush-off calls -- very thorough, compassionate, caring, and professional approach each time. Her willingness to take the sacrifice to spend extra time with pts on the phone despite insurances' unwillingness to pay for those services says a lot about her character and commitment to all of her pts. For office visits--it cannot get any more pleasant.

I would not reccomend her if you are looking for someone supportive of breastfeeding. She claims breastmilk has no nutritional value after 12 months. This is outdated information and goes against what the world health organization reccomends and also against what the american academy of pediatrics recommends. There is science based evidence that breastmilk is beneficial regardless what age.

We appreciate the opportunity to care for your child for the past year. Starlight regrets that our guidance at your last visit was misinterpreted, because we certainly support breast feeding. Regular milk was only recommended because it's considered safe after 12 months of age, if this is the parents choice, but as you mentioned breast milk is always best !!! :) We wish the very best for you and your family.
