I really don't understand the negative comments at all. I have seen Dr. Cunning for many years and appreciate her wisdom, humor, and ability to provide solid advice and to treat my symptoms (OCD and depression). She has been an absolute lifesaver to me involving life transitions and consider her to be a friend. Her knowledge of medications involving the brain and other organs in addressing my specific symptoms are always on target. She's opinionated but only because she is very knowledgeable.
Dr. Cunning is a terrible psychiatrist. I had GAD from stress at work and my sessions that involved her personal stories. I had questions about med side effects that were dismissed. She told me I was going to "go crazy" if I took time off work and made comments that left me anxious. In her words, "I don't diagnose people", resulted in numerous meds that left me sedated, limiting my ability to function at work and in life. I left sessions feeling bullied into treatments and ignored. Avoid her.
If you want your hand held, see someone else. If you are ready to deal with your issues, Dr. Cunning may be exactly the right choice for you. She is direct, intelligent and slightly confrontational. I can see how this might rub some people the wrong way. However, I haven't any use for psychologists or psychiatrists who enable my problems (and fatten their wallets) by avoiding any serious effort to address them.
Wasted hundreds of dollars on this psychiatrist and the many different medications she prescribed. Doesn't listen during sessions, tries to upsell treatments and services drug companies are paying her for.
